About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced and highly talented Director of Software Engineering to join our team to design AS Software’s next generation of products. The ideal candidate is looking to lead and scale our engineering team as we build the next generation of AS Software products.

 

As a Director of Software Engineering, you will…

  • Develop and deploy a new release strategy that improves delivery speed of features and bug fixes to our customers without compromising product quality
  • Create a career plan to help a junior software engineer focus on skills and actions that will lead to better output and a future promotion
  • Collaborate with the product team, technical leaders, and Client Services to gather requirements, break down, and size tickets for a new cloud-native sonogram sharing product
  • Shift team members to ensure the right technical resources are available for a major refactor of a legacy product

Responsibilities:

  • Constantly evaluate engineering team members to measure role fitness, SDLC process engagement, and career growth opportunities
  • Develop and execute a strategy to align engineering team resources to the goals of the business
  • Calculate, commit to, and communicate target delivery dates
  • Communicate technical requirements, product capabilities, and deployment strategy with customers, technology partners, and executives
  • Cultivate an engineering team culture that values collaboration, technical excellence, and continual improvement
  • Ensure engineering team members have the tools and resources to build quality software products
  • Manage infrastructure costs and appropriately allocate AS Software capital
  • Lead by example and use good judgement when contributing directly to development and deployment work
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new engineering team members
  • Determine salary, merit increases, and conduct performance reviews for engineering team members

  • Expert in modern software development principles, some of which include SOLID, DevOps, the Agile methodology, Continuous Integration & Delivery, and Domain Driven Design
  • Expert in object-oriented design, relational databases, and REST-like APIs, distributed compute, messaging queues, containerization, and other contemporary software development technologies
  • Expert in Cloud (Azure, AWS) architecture, development and deployment
  • Ability to develop in C#, and modern JavaScript and HTML within frameworks like React, Angular, etc.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science (CS), Information Science or related field
  • Experience building SaaS/Cloud based solutions
  • 5+ years of Team Lead or Director of Engineer experience, in addition to at least 10 years of development experience
  • Experience architecting modern applications with technologies such as: languages (C#, JavaScript), databases (Microsoft SQL Server , Postgres), API’s (REST, GraphQL, gRPC), front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, Next.js), and event services (Kafka or RabbitMQ).
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies; SCRUM; Kanban, ect.
